Non-technical person.

I am trying so hard to make a go at working online, there is so much to learn.  I have found more information than you can believe, all for free.  What is wrong with me, I have an degree and am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, but this is just ridicules.  I have been reading and trying a bunch of different things and do not seem to be going anywhere.  I feel like a dunce.  I have listened in on phone calls and heard some of the guru’s speak about how they started and did not have a penny to their name and now they are millionaires.

I decided to download Skype onto my computer the other day and did not get a chance to set it up and try it out until today.  My son in California has used it for awhile now and I thought that I would try it out and call him.  I have a web-cam that has a built in microphone, so I called and the call wont go through because it says that I have a problem with my microphone and need to plug a usb microphone in.  The camera is plugged in by usb, so I started searching for the problem.  There is a wizard that you use when you set up the service, and it says the same thing that my microphone isn’t working, there is a drop-down menu that lists the microphone that it is testing and it is not the right one but there is no other listed to chose.  I looked in the troubleshooting guide and found some info there and checked the control panel and the microphone is functioning properly.  As I was trying to figure out what was wrong I found a settings control on Skype itself and it actually listed the right microphone but is grayed out.  There is also a test number that you call that I had not done and so I called it and the recording said something and then told me to speak and it would play back what I said, it recorded fine.  Back to trying a call and I received the same message that my microphone was not working.

Needless to say I sent an email to Skype after all of that and will be glad when they send me the solution, if there is one.  I am hoping to be able to use it with some of the programs that I am working with .  It just really frustrates me to no end when I am not able to figure out something as silly as this.  I know that the solution will be a simple one, probably staring me in the face.

Oh well, I had a visit from my youngest son and his fiance and that made all of the frustration disappear.  They will be going back to the doctor in about a week to confirm if they are going to have twins or not.  I am so excited, but I feel bad at the same time, a first time pregnancy with twins.  She always has me to help though!!  I love them all!!

You might consider getting yahoo messenger and trying to make your call through that. Your webcam microphone might work fine for it and yahoo IM is free. you would both have to download it though.
